Set in the rolling Hills of East Lothian, a short drive from Edinburgh city centre lies the distillery of Glenkinchie. This makes a perfect stop for the tour as not only is it home to working distillery but also an amazing collection of malt whiskies, housed in a listed red brick building.
History
The Home of Edinburgh Malt, Glenkinchie has been a legal, whisky producing distillery since 1837. Founded by two brothers John and George Rate, it was originally named Milton Distillery but was renamed it Glenkinchie.
The distillery today makes two whiskies, a standard 10 year old and a 14 year old distiller’s edition which has been double matured in Amontillado sherry casks. Both are typically lowland in style, being quite sweet, and light with notes of cut grass and the faintest hint of peat
