Glenmorangie House

Overview

Elegant, luxurious and full of Scottish character, the 17th century Glenmorangie House is more of a country home than a hotel, allowing you to relax and enjoy the finest of Scottish hospitality in an idyllic location.
Situated on the outskirts of the Royal Burgh of Tain, the house overlooks the coastline of the Moray Firth and is an hour’s drive from the Highland capital of Inverness.
Owned and operated by the Glenmorangie Company, the House is the living embodiment of their single malt Scotch Whisky – warm and inviting, elegant and refined – that creates the perfect environment for guests to enjoy themselves.

About Glenmorangie House

The House was built around the end of the 17th Century by Aenias Macleod, MP for Ross and Cromarty, after the 13th century castle had fallen into disrepair. His son, Roderick Macleod, further developed the house, before the family seat moved to Invergordon.
The House eventually became the estate house, looking after farmland that encircles it, which, even today, grows the barley that goes into creating Glenmorangie.
The House was purchased by McDonald and Muir in 1989, who redeveloped it to create a luxury hospitality home where they could entertain and educate those within the Whisky industry. In 1998, they realised that the House could offer an engaging experience to the general public, both whisky lovers and visitors to the area, opening its doors to a much wider audience.

The Glenmorangie Distillery

A stay at Glenmorangie House would not be complete without visiting the world-famous Glenmorangie Distillery, which opened in 1843.
Founder William Matheson chose to buy tall gin stills instead of onion-shaped whisky stills and the extra height allows only the lightest, purest, vapours to reach the top, contributing to Glenmorangie’s distinctive complexity, smoothness and layered flavour.
