Overview
Set in the dunes of Islay, Queen of the Hebrides, The Machrie Links course is one of the most beautiful locations in the world golf. Originally designed in 1891 by Willie Campbell, the course has now been fully modernised by
D J Russell, the former European Ryder Cup Vice Captain and PGA tour player.
There is a reason why the Scots invented golf on links land, Machrie land, and the links turf on which the course sits is among the finest in Scotland. The dramatic setting of Laggan Bay and the sand dunes has few equals, and with
the ever changing nature of the challenge offered by this acclaimed layout it’s time you played The Machrie!
The Machrie’s main claim to fame is its own ‘Open Championship’ of 1901. It included the Great Triumvirate of Harry Vardon, John Henry Taylor and James Braid. It had the highest prize of any Open Competition at that time, of £100!

As well as 47 room Hotel , there are 2 Lounge areas, 18 – our Restaurant & Bar; The Snug; a private 30-seat cinema; Kildalton Room – ideal for board meetings and
private dinners; our boutique health and wellness facilities – PureGray – with Spa, sauna and gym. The Spa offers a menu of treatments from Aromatherapy Associates in London.
The hotel’s Lobby opens out to the central Courtyard. This space is perfect for large events, catering for up to 140 guests, or up to 70 with our custom built marquee.
The Stag Lounge is perfect for afternoon tea and evening drinks around the open fire.
